Downgrading version on mac

First, search the help docs and this forum. Maybe your question has been answered! The debugging steps can help, too. Still stuck? Delete this line and proceed.

What I’m trying to do

Trying to downgrade from the insider build to current public version but version still shows up as latest insider version

Things I have tried

Turn off insider build, turn off auto-update , delete obsidian and install older version but still show up as 1.2.3 not 1.1.16

Found this on another forum but I dont know what it means can anyone help?

I guess you have to cut out (later: delete) the path of obsidian somewhere downwards %AppData% and install the older release (automatically at the same place). (Unfortunately I’m on mobile phone at the moment and have no access to Windows to give you the path). Analogue on Mac, I guess.

These instructions are adapted from the ones in Discord (I’ve submitted them for inclusion in the help docs).

I haven’t done this myself.

  1. Disable Insider builds
    1. Open Settings.
    2. In the sidebar, select About.
    3. Under App, disable Receive insider builds.
  2. Close Obsidian.
  3. Delete the file named x.xx.xx.asar (where the xs stand for numbers):
    • Windows: %APPDATA%\obsidian\obsidian-0.xx.xx.asar
    • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/obsidian/obsidian-0.xx.xx.asar
    • Linux: ~/.config/obsidian/obsidian-0.xx.xx.asar
  4. Restart Obsidian.
