Downgrade version on Windows

What I’m trying to do

I am trying to undo my installation of version 1.7.4 and restore version 1.6.7.

Things I have tried

I’ve uninstalled Obsidian, and then I’ve download the 1.6.7 installer from GitHub. But when I install it, Obsidian opens as version 1.7.4, even though I have automatic updates turned off.

The solution posted here, which has to do with identifying a file named obsidian-0.xx.xx.asar (with the x’s corresponding to numbers) no longer seems to work. I can’t find a file like that in AppData\Local\Obsidian, and even if I did I’m not sure what to do with it: just delete it, and then open Obsidian like usual?

For what it’s worth, here’s what I see when I open AppData\Local\Obsidian (with hidden files visible):

Help seeker managed to achieve it here:

Here’s what I tried, but I still didn’t work:

  1. I uninstalled v1.7.4 (after turning off automatic updates, just for good measure)
  2. Then I downloaded the .exe for v1.6.4.
  3. Then I disabled the Internet.
  4. Then I installed v1.6.4.
  5. Then I deleted a file called obsidian.asar from AppData\Local\Obsidian\resources
  6. Then I opened Obsidian, but the version that opened was v1.7.4

What am I missing?

For the record, the install directory is in Roaming, not Local.
In Local, there is an obsidian-updater folder with an exe file which is probably a copy of the (newly downloaded) installer which one last installed with.

I am not sure what has changed lately to hinder effective downgrading.
If all else fails, as a last resort, you can go ahead and remove all traces of Obsidian with an uninstall (your work and settings in your vault(s) would stay intact) and re-install with the method I thought would work. You’d need to re-add and have your vaults re-indexed, though as if you installed Obsidian for the very first time.

why downgrade ??

Some important third-party plugin may not have had their updates to work well with the new version? (I hope that’s all it amounts to.)
Surely, the kinks in Catalyst versions have been ironed out…?

Thank you, Yurcee, the following method worked:

  1. Turn off the automatic update feature
  2. Uninstall Obsidian
  3. Delete the .asar file from AppData\Roaming\obsidian (not \Local)
  4. Reinstall the desired version of Obsidian

I think if these steps are followed in this order, there’s no need to disconnect from the Internet

The problem was this bug for inline footnotes. Have to wait until v1.8.
