I’ve been using Obsidian for years and this has been the only constant issue throughout that time. It’s amazing how spoiled we are by other OSX apps when we accidentally type something like “teh,” and it corrects it for us!
I, too, would love to use Obsidian exclusively. But for now, Typora, etc, have their place.
I came here to say I have the same problem and it is incredibly frustrating. I make a lot of typos and the lack of autocorrect really slows me down.
I opened a similar forum post on this a few months back - spellcheck issues in Mac OS - but I suspect my issue has the same root cause of this Electron spell checker.
On iOS however, the autocorrect and spellcheck are both very good - Obsidian seems to use the system level functions there. If only that were the case on MacOS too.
The native macOS autocorrect still doesn’t seem to be working even with the latest installer. Also in the changelog for Obsidian 1.7.0 nothing is being mentioned.
Keeping this thread alive in the hope that Mac autocorrect will be enable in obsidian soon. like others, this limits how much I use the app, though I love everything else about it
really missing this as well – MacOS native autocorrect speeds up my typing quite a lot. That said, my understand is that Obsidian is built on Electron, and so support for autocorrect would probably have to come from there.
Does anybody has an idea to efficiently file this upstream Electron bug at the Electron GitHub repo?
There are many both open and closed issues in the repo. But most of them rotate back to general spellcheck features (that seem to be implanted years ago) and don’t specifically address the autocorrect bug in MacOS. If there is a pointer to that bug, most of the time these repo issues seem to be closed or solved.
