Quick switching between Vault

Use case or problem

when you have multiple vault and are working on different vaults the way to open vault is to click on the “Open Another Vault” button or or having a shortcut to do this then selecting the other vault you want to view.

not only this is slow but also messy if you’re woking in more than 3 vaults

it would be amazing if there is ꜜ ꜜ ꜜ

Proposed solution

a “Quick Switcher” or keyboard shortcut that would allow to quickly switch view to a different vault, you’d be able to bounce back and forth between 2 or 3 vaults (examples: personal vault, the Obsidian help vault, etc.).

Is this possible? i am a novice programmer i want to do this by my self but i don’t know if this possible and how to do it

Window menu (for handling multiple vaults open)

As a workaround, you could use the Obsidian URL scheme, and tie your vaults’ URLs to hotkeys on your system.

It would be really nice if when the “Open another vault” dialogue pops up, the highlight is already in the list of vaults & I could use up / down keys and enter to select a vault.

Another useful feature might be a vault quick opener / quick switcher built into the command palette.

On a related note: a keyboard shortcut to switch between vaults (ie. windows) would be nice. On macOS many apps use ALT+TAB for this.

I understand that keyboard shortcuts are defined per vault, so this may be tricky. Yet having a Window menu with a Next Vault item would allow us to define a shortcut in System Preferences → Keyboard → Shortcuts → App Shortcuts (speaking of macOS again).

You can cycle through open vaults on a Mac by using CMD BACKTICK.

Thanks @anon12638239! Unfortunately CMD BACKTICK does not work when the vault windows are fullscreen’ed.

On second thought, I can still use the Move left/right a space shortcuts (which is what I actually do). Somewhat inconsistent, but works.

Far from ideal, but CTRL LEFT / RIGHT ARROW should work to move between vaults when in full-screen mode. (Perhaps we are talking about the same shortcut here!)

I made an account on this forum just to agree with this post strongly. I hate having multiple windows, It would be nice if I could open multiple vaults in a single instance. It is just a note taking file manager afterall. Why not have each vault stacked underneath eachother. Prehaps as “Workspaces” much like VS Code.

Obsidian 1.12.x there will be command and a menu for switching quickly between vaults.
