I wholeheartedly agree! This should be a core feature of Obsidian. In the meantime, community plugins are to the rescue.

• Grid Layout/Card View/Masonry Gallery
• Support multiple columns of tab groups in the sidebars
• Option to separate folders from notes in file explorer
• Show Folder Note Count in File Explorer
• More fluidity in panes
• Allow more than one file explorer pane
