When you want to quickly move an open note into a folder within a large complex vault.
Proposed solution
Any sort of drag and drop solution would be awesome. Perhaps simply dragging and dropping the tab directly to the folder would work. If that is confusing, maybe ctrl/cmd dragging and dropping the tab. This might be more straightforward since the tab is already used for drag and drop rearrangement of ui.
Current workaround (optional)
It can be helpful to do a reveal in system explorer then just drag and drop the file into the correct folder within Navigator pane in Windows.
So excited to see all the awesome progress to Obsidian! It has been a pleasure to watch. I am very thankful to have been able to be part of this awesome experience. You all are the best!
That would be really nice. It would significantly reduce friction of organizing notes into folders. I bet most of the users have tried to drag the tab into folder at some point, it seems like a pretty natural action.
Nice. I didn’t realize this was default behavior in other applications such as Apple Notes.
Understandably this is not high priority, but I don’t see many downsides. I do believe there could be ways to avoid accidentally moving notes for people who were simply trying to change the layout. For example there could be a required amount of time to hold the dragged tab over the Explorer pane before a clear highlighted visual indication that you are about to move the note into a chosen folder.
Usually I open the command palette and type “expl” for «files: show file explorer» to see where my active note is, if it isn’t highlighted in my explorer.
Or I use “move” for «move current file to another folder» which is pretty comfortable.
Dragging gets cumbersome if you’ve to navigate long lists up or down, imo.
As much as I like dragging, its usefulness seems more for smaller movements.
