Keyboard shortcut for opening in a new pane / fixing opening link in new pane in edit mode

Following the discussion in this bug report where it is being discussed that when you are in edit mode and click a link you can never open that link in a new pane.

I wished for a consistent behaviour between preview mode and edit mode. Changing this could be disruptive to users where this behaviour works well.

So my proposal would be to be able to edit this in keyboard shortcuts, as then it could be tailored to your taste.

I was looking for a keyboard shortcut to perform the command+click behavior of opening a link in edit mode and came across this. Has something like that been implemented or is there a way to enable this type of keyboard shortcut?
