Iām still experiencing kernel panics with installer version 0.12.3. They seem to be less frequent but still happen. Itās hard to qualify when exactly they happen but as long as Iām working in one file, it seems to happen less frequently. When I quickly jump back and forth between many files, it seems to happen more frequently.

I just had the first reboot after upgrading to the lastest version. This happen when I clicked upgrade āDataviewā plugin. At the end of the update process it reboot.
The Obsidian developers keep an eye on the electron issue
2 weeks ago a developer of another app found a workaround, but only time will tell if this will solve the problem, The working solution appears to be to start file watching via ipc

(which is not easy to change from how currently this is done in Obsidian, it was discussed a few posts above)
- I never experienced KP due to using Obsidian on my old Intel MacBook Pro, but I am monitoring this topic bc I want to switch to Apple Silicon mac soon
- I donāt know if this is relevant, but last year I started experiencing sudden crashes on my Intel 2014 MacBook Pro (it was probably due to low voltage problem in Haswell processor and MacOS instruction set), I installed one of the scripts from this topic and since then my Intel mac never crashed

Not sure if itās still helpful to continue reporting but I just had two crashes within an hour. Strangely, this time, I was actually just working on one file. No jumping around. No linking. Just trying to write text.
This is becoming slightly annoying.
What can I do to reduce these?
Iāve reset SMC and NVRAM and running the latest installer version 0.12.3 on MacOS 10.15.7.
Whatās the latest best practices to avoid these crashes? Am I missing anything?

I donāt think thereās much you can do, unfortunately. I know itās not explicitly Obsidianās fault that it happens, but I would love for this to patched in at least the coming year. While it only affects some users, I think itās still a very disruptive bug, which we have no control over.

Side-note: have you ever experienced Obsidian not saving the file you are working on and the changes are ālostā when you switch to another file?
(I am trying to understand if there is a connection with another report)
Had 2 kernel panics with insider 12.4 and they were so bad that they made my MacBook Pro 2018 13 inch do a complete restart two times yesterday out of no where.
I had coastal theme, my own snippet and 50 plugins installed.
Today my css snippets wouldnāt load even after quitting and reloading the app. It was so bad.
I just updated to Mac OS 11.4 and did a complete uninstall of obsidian and all plugins in .obsidian and am now on obsidian 0.12.3 I feel like im on a whole different obsidian!
What I learned is to make sure to quit Obsidian EVERY time I wake up my laptop from sleeping. Obsidian doesnāt play nicely if you start using it after it goes to sleep.

Yes, I experienced it several times, but I donāt remember did I switch to another file when it happened. I will notice it next time.
The situation is: I found I canāt type, paste images, or open other note-> cmd+R ā Obsidian restart (sometimes close the windows ) ā The change in 10~20 minutes disappeared, and I couldnāt find any changelog in my version history of Obsidian Sync and Dropbox.
By the way, I seldom met the Kernel Panic now, only 3 times from 2 months till now.
Yes, it happened to me in the first day of use in a vault imported from Windows to macOS 11.1. My setup is with a custom theme, a couple of snippets (bullet list with lines, horizontal tabs, invisible scroll bar), and the DataView and Calendar plugin. No cloud storage, all local.
I was typing in a note, and added a link to an existing note. I right-click on it and instead of seeing the Obsidian default drop-down list, I got the macOS right-click droplist. So I CMD+R, and when the program reloaded, the changes I had done in the last few minutes were gone. Of course, the file recovery Snapshot was inexistent.
Didnāt happen again for a while, but itās a bit scary. I kind of write my notes afraid of it now.

Sympathy to every affected by this. Reading this thread from start to finish sucks. But at the same time itās a bit thrilling, like game of thrones leading up the Battle of Winterfell.

Had another one pointing to Obsidian Helper. I avoided using Obsidian desktop for the last few days. I used Obsidian Mobile most of the time (and occasionally desktop for a few minutes ) and had no KP on my computer. Just now I opened Ob desktop for like 20 min and it caused a KP.

Just had several kernel panics in a row - new user of Obsidian, just downloaded yesterday on a 2020 16" Intel MacbookPro. Not many plugins (Citations, Dataview), most crashes happened on default Dark theme, now Iām on Minimal.
I think thereās a correlation with pasting in text from other programs, but canāt be sure.

Iāve been having continued crashes here (approx 4 per day). Iām not managing to find good reports, though - nothing at all relevant in Console under Crash Reports or Diagnostic Reports. Itās a hard hang, machine instantly turns off.
Iām starting to become suspicious of interaction with the Citations plug-in - itās often after adding or looking at a link to a literature note.
One other point - Iāve got my Vault in a Dropbox folder. Iām going to stop syncing for a while, and see if that helpsā¦
