It would be awesome if Obsidian added a toolbar, similar to what we have on mobile, to allow for another way to edit and format text. Markdown is extremely powerful and the command pallet is useful but being able to have a toolbar is also useful. I know there are community plugins that add toolbar functionality but having a first party option would be nice, especially for someone like me who uses only vanilla Obsidian for simplicity and privacy/security.
Proposed solution
Obsidian should add the same toolbar that is on mobile to the desktop application. Hopefully having it on mobile will make this an easier lift.
Current workaround (optional)
Use community plugins (which I am not willing to do right now)

Thank you for making such a great and powerful app!
We already have formatting menu introduced in Obsidian 1.5.3. The basic principle here is that this formatting view requires an action to be shown. This action also comes as a command Show context menu under cursor. Some users like me prefer unobtrusive interface when it comes to writing.
That is interesting, I wasn’t aware of that solution. And although it isn’t exactly what I am looking for it’s a step in the right direction. Thanks for sharing!
