Unable to update/fetch community plugins behind http proxy (linux)

Things I have tried

I am running obsidian using the appimage on MX-Linux (Debian stable).
I have the http_proxy and https_proxy environment variables set (including the username and password for the proxy).

What I’m trying to do

I expect that there would be some way to allow obsidian to connect to internet for downloading updates / checking community plugins. But unfortunately it doesn’t seem to pick the http_proxy and https_proxy environment variable, which is a standard practice in the other applications that I use.

Is there a way to make obsidian use the proxy for connecting to internet.

Please note that the proxy is an authenticating proxy, i.e. it requires a username and a password.
