I’m completely new to Obsidian and wonder if it is possible to use Dropbox to sync a vault between Windows 11, IOS, Ipad OS and Mac OS? As far as I can tell it is only possible to pick a custom folder for a vault in the desktop version of the app.
I have read that - apart from using Obsidian Sync - it’s only possible to use iCloud to sync a vault between Apple devices and that the iCloud Drive for Windows is not so reliable (may lead to file duplication or corruption). So I just wanted to check here on the forum if someone can confirm this, or if it is possible to somehow use Dropbox for syncing between Apple devices?
Obsidian can’t use Dropbox directly on iOS, but the Remotely Save community plugin can enable syncing to it (and to various other services and protocols).
I believe it should be technically possible for Obsidian to support Dropbox on iOS (for years it wasn’t possible). You can show support for it by commenting on this feature request: Vaults in Dropbox on iOS.
There are a couple more options for sync but they require more technical knowledge: Git (with the Working Copy or a-Shell iOS app) and the Self-hosted LiveSync plugin
Thanks @CawlinTeffid ! I will have a look at Remotely Save and then decide if want to go for an “inofficial” solution like that, or start a paid Obsidian Sync plan.
