Reminders/Notifications in Obsidian

Any chance of this happening soon? Most of the other software have this feature and it’s a really important one.

If it is to be a server-side push notification, yes. Apple has a similar setup with the APN service. They say it’s for optimizing battery and bandwidth but, you know, more platform control for them.

The more you know…

And also a sneaky +1 for enabling a cross-platform system-notification API endpoint for plugins like tasks / reminders to use. Please don’t make it an Obsidian Sync feature…

As a Linux and android user this is very valuable to me :crossed_fingers:

It’d be great to have. And it’d be even better to add the reminder as an “event” so that it would show in all calendar and widget apps too (99% of widgets don’t show the “task” calendar but only the “event” calendar).

I wish there was a way to “+” a thread without having write something if you don’t have anything to contribute, but there isn’t. So here it is, I would really love this as this issue is forcing me to use something else, and I’d love to go all Obsidian :purple_heart:

Guys it’s really important if we use Obsidian as task manager. Please make ios local notifications possible even without backend

I just finished setting up my vault to be synced between my phone and my PC (I use arch).
I was thinking of integrating this in my workflow.
I saw a few people saying they use Linux, does the reminders plugin work on Linux or not 'cause I don’t understand.
Even then even just android notifications would be great, I saw this repo while researching GitHub - obsidiansystems/push-notifications
Maybe it can be useful?

I am on Manjaro XFCE. Reminder plugin works. Seems to use the system notifications.

It seems that repo is not directly related to Obsidian.md despite the name. However, the idea of integration with a push notification service is :slightly_smiling_face: Maybe, the reminder plugin could provide an option for mobile notifications using a service such as https://ntfy.sh/ (open source, self-hostable) until native notification support is implemented on mobile. In fact, it shouldn’t be that difficult to come up with a rudimentary setup with scripting e.g. using the Shell Commands plugin, to push notifications to mobile for various workflows in Obsidian via ntfy or a similar service. Just a thought…

Yes! This would be a fantastic addition. Reminder plugin is ok but not useful if you manage tasks via iOS or Android.

Please add this functionality!

I would love to have this too! It would fill the gaps between what should be calendar and personal to-do’s that have content for me  my best solution so far has been to make a page for something, and make a calendar event with a time and the page’s URI.

This would be the final thing I would need to get my workflow on par with what I had when using org-mode and the Beorg app. Would love this feature!

@WhiteNoise In reply to you question from a year ago
Web-Api should work from iOS Version 16.4 on, if I read your link correctly (see the footnotes in the table) : https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/notification#browser_compatibility

For me it works, if I put this site on the homescreen: https://webapicheck.com/apis/notifications-api

I also would be very interested if obsidian would include “Local Notifications” natively on mobile. It should work, capacitor does have those features, right?

Also made an account to +1 this… How could anyone think that competing with other note taking apps wouldn’t require notifications? Blows my mind. Telegram is better at note taking that Obsidian in my use case due to this fact.

I’m here to add to the chorus of folks asking for this feature. Mobile push notifications are one of the two key use cases for me from a note-taking app, so while Obsidian looks great for a lot of things, I unfortunately can’t switch to it until this feature is available. I’ll specifically need to wait for Android support. Is this something that’s currently planned?

Keeping this thread alive. Push notifications are one of the few things obsidian is still missing for me. I’ve been loyally using this application, waiting patiently for this important feature. Instead the app has mostly been adding features that were already covered by plugins. At the very least, I am hoping for an explanation about why this will not be added, by the team, here on the forum. I understand it was discussed briefly on the Discord, but other users considering Obsidian or alternatives deserve to know if this will ever be on the roadmap
