Readable Line Length Menu Blocking Copy on Android

Steps to reproduce

[Tested on Android phone]

  • Long-click word in reading view.
  • Drag to select more words to copy.
  • Notice how the “Readable Line Length” menu overlay pops up and blocks the native copy menu.

Expected result

No blocking of native copy menu for text.

Environment

Android after upgrading to v1.7.4.

I have this issue, too. Sometimes tapping above the menu dismisses it and lets me do what I wanted to do in the first place, other times it messes up the text selection I made.

Os: Android 11
Obsidian: 1.7.4 (167)
Obsidian Sync: no
Save mode: on
Web view: Version 128.0.6613.127 (661312731)

Problem

In edit mode, line breaks and hashes make it difficult to select multiple lines, so the best way to select text is in preview view.

Since v1.7.4, Obsidian mobile blocks the native copy dialog with a “readable line length” pop-up dialog, this happens already with just 2 lines (2 simple sentences without bold/italic/inline code and separated by a line break)

  • First, the “readable line length” feature on phone is more than superfluous by the small screen size and shouldn’t even exist on phone.

  • Second, such an option is a general preference and has no reason to exist as a kind of “quick switch” mode in notes

Solutions

  • please put “readable line length” back into Obsidians settings, were this option belongs and where it was before
  • Alternatively, please put “readable line length” away in the options (3 dot menu on top) if this feature on phone is essential. I don’t see the point, but OK.
  • Or remove “readable line length” from phones, best choice in my opinion.

Can someone grab a screenshot of this?

I’m on iOS, latest Obsidian, but I haven’t seen anything like a “readable line length” menu pop up when selecting text or otherwise.

I haven’t seen anything like this dialog/popup before (on iOS). Are you sure it’s not coming from a community theme or plugin?

@ariehen Same result when turning on restricted mode and disabling all plugins (I use no theme, only my own custom-made css).

That menu does not come from obsidian core.
Which phone/android version/keyboard app do you use?
Does this happen with default theme?

Enable restricted mode, use default theme, restart obsidian.
Post a screenshot of this happening. Thanks.

Save mode: on,
CSS: all off.
View mode: reading view
Theme: default light theme

I’ve no clue where this pop-up comes from, but one thing is sure, it didn’t happen before v1.7.4. Right now it’s impossible to copy text in reading mode

will be fixed 1.7.5

No theme used and no plugins during testing, only my custom css.
FYI I can even invoke it from windows as well. It’s a special keyboard shortcut which I actually never use, here’s a screenshot from win11.

Greetings! :sparkles:

Thank you heartfelt for the marvelous project!

I am sorry, but just wanted to share that the issue may still appear on version v1.7.5 (device tested: M2007J3SG).

@WhiteNoise I agree, issue persists with the latest version.

Ok let me check again

sorry, it didn’t make it to 1.7.5. Will be fixed in later release. 1.7.6
