Question about Markdown

What I’m trying to do

When using templates, I like to organize the documents with

  • Headline of a section
  • some descriptive text what is expected here (formatted as ‘blockquote’)
  • space for the text when working with the note

Things I have tried

My ‘problem is’, that the first line **after ** the description (blockquote with leading '> ') is still formatted as blockquote, despite having no leading '> '.
I always need to enter a blank line to see the regular text-format.
Interestingly, when I begin the line with a bullet-point, it’s fine:

## headline of the section
> some explanatory text of what I shall write about
> maybe some guiding questions?

This is the text entered when working with the note.

## headline of the section
> some explanatory text of what I shall write about
> maybe some guiding questions?
- This is the text entered when working with the note.
``

Question:
Is that a bug or a feature?
Am I missing something about Markdown syntax?
Is there any solution to reach my goal?

For pretty much everything in Markdown, it’s best practice to have a blank line between sections, including headings.

For formatting questions or issues, the screenshots are helpful, but because of live preview and different themes, it would be better to put your source text in a code block by surrounding it above and below by three (or more) backticks `.

thank you for the tipps!
Personally, I don’t like having blank lines between headings and paragraphs.
Let’s see if I can get used to it.

I totally understand.

But, if you switch to reading view (the rendered HTML), you’ll noticed it’s expanded anyway and the blank lines are there.

You’re right.
I was wondering why that would be anyway (don’t use reading mode too often). Now I know.

Now that all makes more sense.
I guess I do good to get used to the standard and insert blank lines after headings.

:cold_sweat:

Live Preview lets you get away with no line under a header, so go ahead if it looks better to you (I think it looks better at times). But, as you discovered, you can’t get away without a blank line under a block quote.

I found the blank lines annoying when I started using Markdown (years before Obsidian existed) but I’ve gotten used to them (and even appreciate them), so there’s hope. :slightly_smiling_face:
