Where? How? In the same file? Are creating some new file?
Even if you add an new annotation in the pdf, you’ll need to run the import command again.
In zotero, I create a new note. So, it appears under the name, ie a standalone note, but attached to the reference.
How, do I pull in a note from zotero to obisidian.
I understand about running the import again for new data. I’m just referring to the initial transfer.
I’m not sure if I’m explaining it very well.
In the data preview in obsidian
Data explorer feature (cmd / ctrl + P -> Search 'Data explorer'
)
They show up as
notes 10 keys
0 {} 11 keys
followed by data about the note, then the note.
1 {} 11 kyes
etc…
So I tried this code
{%- if abstractNote %} >
NOTE: {{abstractNote}} {%- endif -%}
But it only displayed
[object Object] multiple times…
I don’t do standalone notes.
I do annotations in PDFs.
Can Zotero Integration bring in standalone notes? Is it that what you are trying to use this plugin for?
Well, apparently, it can, if that’s what ‘notes’ refers to:
About
Insert and import citations, bibliographies, notes, and PDF annotations from Zotero into Obsidian.
Then check the docs:
But this is not what people use this plugin for.
I did review the docs, and did not see the answer I’m looking for, thus my question here. I would assume zotero-integration can do it, I just am looking for the syntax in the coding to do it.
If there is nothing in the docs, do you suppose we know it better than the developer?
At some point I’d let this go and add annoations to pdf’s and import those.
At a push, at the GH page, in Issues, look for your problem and if you don’t find it, file a Feature Request to have this work.
I would agree with the developer knowing more about their program, however, I was hoping someone here had run into this or had the specific syntax. I’m sure it’s simple to do. I wonder if the workflow needs to change from doing the summary and making notes in zotero and moving it obsidian. Therefore, I would not need notes in zotero, nor import issues.
I would agree with that.
I mean, from my experience on the forum, people pull in the annotations (only). They don’t make use of a separate standalone note. The nunjucks template you showed is for the annotations as well, not for the standalone notes.
There are other Zotero related plugin for Obsidian but they are often discontinued or for other use cases, and this is the most commonly used one.
As for how people do summaries, or when (after pulling in the annotation?), well, it’s up to the user.
If you need help or inspiration with workflows, look around in Knowledge management or the #academia space at Obsidian’s Discord channel.
