Mlamali
Thaaanks, where can i have this setting windows please
Hello Primary users!!
Thank you so so much for all the love, support, bug reports, and suggestions you’ve been pouring onto the theme I apologize for the recent lack of updates as I’ve been working on a web comic with a tight deadline soon to be released. I’ll come back with great updates this August.
All your comments have been read and noted - I apologize for not having replied directly yet, but I will soon!!
Thank you so much for your patience.
Thank you very much for developing Primary. It’s because of this theme that I decided to get a commercial license and make Obsidian my main tool at work for personal knowledge management. Everything might figuratively be on fire from time to time in my office, but the color scheme, fonts, and other elements in Primary help to keep me calm and collected as I keep track of my tasks and write notes to record the chaos of meetings and correspondence with co-workers.
Hey there @Mlamalerie !! I hope I’m not too late – you can get these settings by downloading the plugin, “Style Settings”. Once you download it, go back to the Settings window and under Community Plugin → Style Settings.
There you should see the dropdown called, Primary Theme Settings.
Hope this helps!!
Hey Primary Users !! I just pushed an update for v.1.4.8.
Sorry I’ve not updated the theme for some time! I just got really busy working on another project. I’m back on having more time and I’m planning to roll out bigger features for Primary, especially alternative color schemes, fully customizing the Primary’s color palette, and bringing Primary to other apps. Thank you so much for your patience!!
New
Scale Obsidian’s text size on scroll (Toggle it on through Style Settings) [BETA] #43
Note: I haven’t fully implemented this feature and you might find some UI elements not resizing on scroll. I need your help to polish this! If you find parts that aren’t resizing, please post an issue so that on the next update I can fix them.
Added Variations for Alt Checkboxes
Added ones missing from Minimal’s alt checkboxes list by kepano. Also added some new ones like medical, measurement, translation, clock, tags, etc.
Added Checkbox Styling Options #120
Choose from 4 style: Original, Squircle, Square, Circle. You also have the option to change background color for the checked
checkboxes. Note: Some checkboxes, especially ones with bigger/details icons might not acquire your preferred style for visibility purposes.
Added Variation for Callouts
Added Full-sized Floating Dock #105
Fixes
- fixed resize handles
- fixed borders suddenly appearing when sidebars are active
- fixed extra borders around active files/folders
- removed border-bottom of titlebar
- fixed styling of file explorer search options popup
- fixed scrollbar showing up on note header
- fixed some styling issues on Style Settings
- improved side dock ribbon alignment, margins, and padding
- progress bar when updating plugins, check theme for updates, linked mentions #129
- improve progress bar support to any value from 1-100

Hi Cecilia, I love your theme so much, it’s what has gotten me back into using Obsidian, as I didn’t find any of the themes before warm or cozy enough. Am I able to use the colours on my own personal website with credit? Also, I eagerly await your VSCode port and even though I’ve not worked on a theme before can’t wait for public contribs to be open
Thanks, Cecilia. Your Primary theme helps me slog through long work days, during which I’m almost constantly in Obsidian. I wish the UIs of the other apps that I need to use showed such genuine care and experience in their choice of colors, as the palette you chose makes Obsidian a haven from other light (always white or gray), dark (always black or dark gray), and even solarized themes. I also appreciate the polish, all of the small touches, in Primary.
First of all thank you very much for this incredible theme that you have made. I love the level of customization that can be done. Now I have come across a little problem, when I want to modify the H2 header border width it doesn’t work.
Hi Cecilia! Thank you for the update!
What do you think about theme system overhaul in 0.16? How hard will it be to update Primary? I guess I’ll disable auto updates of Obsidian until Primary is compatible with the new system
I’m not updating to 16 until Primary gets updated. I love this theme so much.
Issues with Primary for Obsidian 0.16
Primary is currently unusable for Obsidian 0.16. If you want to keep using Primary for at least until end of September, I recommend opting out of the 0.16 update for now.
The way Primary was built is essentially it is a bunch of band-aid code put on top of the previous Obsidian Default theme. This is pretty much how other themes are made. The level of detail and adjustments I did for Primary was a lot which is why the lot of it is currently broken. Some scrolling, a lot of the workspace customizable features, etc. are all broken. A lot has to be rebuilt.
If you didn’t know I am also the designer+developer of LYT Mode, and because Nick will need the update soon, that has to come first!
There are other priorities in the bag too (all related to Primary - but outside Obsidian - cool stuff coming up!!!) so my goal is to get Primary rebuilt for 0.16 onwards by 3rd week to end of September at most.
Thank you so much for all your patience!!! I promise it will all be worth it
@Dionos - this and other customizations will be fixed once I rebuild Primary for the 0.16 update.
Thought I’d share my Nvim color scheme based on Primary here
I just made it for myself, since I like keeping having one color scheme for my stuff, but there might be other Primary fans out there using Nvim!
Looking forward to the 0.16 update!
This theme is beautiful and I really want to use it, but the contrast is just too low. I’d love to see a higher-contrast setting. It doesn’t need to be extreme, but something close to WCAG guidelines would be much more pleasant to use.
yes pls, would like a sharper text option. everything is too dim now
I try every theme avaiable in community theme tab, but in overall nothing please my eyes like Primary theme. I make change on some option via styles setting plugin to suit my taste:
- change every font to Inter, except interface font to QuickSand. Inter is boring, but easy to read than default font, but tbh the default Karla font is beautiful.
- change Header size to Medium, Preset header color to Secondary color header, i don’t like each header has difference color, six is too much, just 3 is ok >>> look perfect on my ipad 12.9, and on my iPhone too.
- there is no problem at all with theme contrast, is just perfect. I trust the author eyes. I love her work so much. Before Primary, i use only Cybertron theme (also design by Cecillia May too)
- i wish card text font in kanban plugin just a little bit bigger, and the “tree dot” next to card content just a little bit smaller. That would be perfect !
We are eagerly awaiting the Primary update for 0.16. I’m holding off on updating Obsidian until Primary is ready.
I understand, of course, that it takes a lot of time to rebuild everything. But would be great to hear about your progress.
Hey there @luke85 !!
I’m currently creating design mockups for 0.16! I’ve been busy for other things surrounding Primary too since I was tasked to bring it to Thunderbird. It might take a bit longer since I’m juggling a lot of things and I really apologize for that! But know that I’ve started working on it and is on the way. My aim to get it done within October. By then I think the new features for both Desktop and Mobile would’ve slightly stabilized and matured and it’d be easier on my end too.
Thank you so so much for patience and I apologize for any inconvenience!!
Obsidian 1.0 is here and I haven’t tried updating anything yet but I am sure that the theme will be broken
Try your best to support the new features please cause I adore this theme - until then I will use the default obsidian theme or a theme that has been updated for this update but still please try updating the Primary theme as quick as possible!
