Ordered checkbox lists aren’t supported. That they work at all is probably an accident. Obsidian supports unordered lists, ordered lists, and task lists (which use the unordered list marker). Basic formatting syntax - Obsidian Help

I thought this conversation had happened before with someone else, but it seems I was thinking of this help thread which holroy addressed, saying (with proof) that numbered task lists seem to be not a thing: Checkbox (Task) markdown in numbered list item not repeating - #3 by holroy
