Use case or problem

Dear obsidian,

I would like to ask obsidian developers to stop the app to reinforce force opening the last note or document without prompting for with my concent when opened up the app after closing it since the last time as it’s extremely embarrassing considering possibility of any random person around to be reviewing the internal content typed without my consent when opening up the app right before someone especially if it’s a family member who’s right next to me and I’m opening it up right before them/him/her whatever

Proposed solution

I feel like obsidian can add a new feature in the settings of the app which would then upon application would stop the app from forcibly opening the last note or document I opened in the app before I closed. Multiple options for such a feature can stop the app from opening up the last note or document or maybe open up a prompt before forcibly dumping me on the last note as it’s extremely embarrassing

Current workaround (optional)

I currently have the close the last tab I opened up from the tab section and then open up a new note or switchover as when I do such it abruptly drops me onto the previous note which if it’s confidential, it’s embarrassing to be showing it before someone else especially if it’s a family member, or anyone from career.

This feature could be similar to “On startup” setting in web browsers:

  • open new tab
  • continue where you left
  • open specific note or set of notes

See also Settings–>Core plugins–>Daily notes–>Open daily note on startup.

For now you can work around this with the Homepage community plugin.

  1. Enable Settings > Core Plugins > Workspaces.
  2. Close all notes but not the app.
  3. Save the current, empty layout as a workspace.
  4. In the Homepage plugin’s settings, set that workspace as your homepage.
  5. Enable the setting to load the home page when the app starts.

How do I apply that workspace as my default workspace ?

I don’t know precisely, there should be a way in the settings of the Homepage plugin. (I haven’t used it myself but I know others have done this.)
