Obsidian 1.9.10+ is slower / lags / choppy - Electron 37

We got a few reports that Obsidian 1.9.10+ with installer 1.9.10 is slower / lags.

We are monitoring this issue. We believe there is certainty something on MacOS caused by the electron update and perhaps related to GPU acceleration.

If you encounter this bug, it would be helpful to know when exactly it happens and if it does in the sandbox vault.

Does disabling hardware acceleration help (Settings>Appearance>Advanced)?

Please provides us the output of “show debug info” and your computer specs. Thanks.

I’m experiencing the described slowdown.

When?
Opening the Quick Switcher (cmd+O) and opening the Command Palette (cmd+P).
Subsequent openings are snappy, but waiting a while and using the quick switcher will once again be slow.

Hardware Acceleration
Disabling hardware acceleration seems to completely resolve the issue for me.

Sandbox Vault
Still slow with hardware acceleration enabled.

Yes, since this update which introduced bases, their performance was really bad, especially when I’m marking some text, copying or deleting. Really bad overall.
I’m not quite sure yet, but it seems like disabling hardware acceleration improved or maybe fixed the problem.

You have different problem, because you are still running an older version of electron.

ok thanks for pointing this out. but still, before the bases update everything was fine

Open a separate bug report and make sure you follow the troubleshooting steps before that.

we will have a workaround for this problem in 1.9.13. No ETAs.

This is an upstream problem.
