Use case or problem
The bookmarks panel is only visible in the main window. The options for opening bookmarks are: left clicking to open it in the main window, or right click and pick open in new window. But if I have a specific window I am working in that I want to open a note in, it is awkward to go back to the main window, open it and then move things around.
Also highly useful when right clicking a bookmark group is “Bookmark the active tab…”. This sort-of only works for tabs active in the main window
Proposed solution
Ideas:
- a key-combo to pop up a bookmark file picker.
- a key-combo to pop open a side-panel with bookmarks (and possibly file explorer, etc. see related feature request below)
- ability to “bookmark active tab” from a bookmark hierarchy shown in a different window
Current workaround (optional)
Ctrl+O works if you know the bookmark structure by name, but it does not show the bookmarks/groups in order; a partial match (E.g. group name) will show candidates sorted alphanumerically rather than the original order.
I discovered if the main window is focused to an empty “New tab” and then you click the desired tab in another window, then the right click “bookmark active tab” will correctly select the tab in the other window.
