Some plugins require to insert an emoji or a rare symbol, demanding to switch the language in order to type it. It is very uncomfortable, especially when u have to repeat the same procedure over and over, or a combination is long and complicated.
What if we could assign a hotkey to any symbol or a group of symbols? One click - and it appears where cursor position.
It could save so much time!
Luckily somebody made a plugin called Templater which is capable of all of this. You can use it to make a template with just a few characters, or having menus to select a given character. And all insertion of templates can be assigned to a hotkey of your choice.
Thanks a lot!
I knew about Templater, but didn’t quite catch the idea from its description on community plugins store, thought it was for more serious things.
Maybe you know something on this topic too? Or would you like to support the idea?
Because one can run out of hotkeys fairly fast (especially on Windows where the Meta or Windows key is taken for a bunch of built on commands), I like to use Typing Transformer. Or you can use any Text expander type of plugin of your preference.
Make a file as an index for your transformations (rules) as a reminder to make sure you don’t forget what trigger is used for what.
It’s also recommended to extend this approach system-wide so that you can use expansions for outside of Obsidian activities.
