How do I know when the Obsidian desktop application has saved by work to local storage, besides crossing my fingers, closing and application and opening it again to see if my changes are present?
I see there is a community plugin, but I don’t want to download plugins willy-nilly.
Are there no built-in indicator in the Obsidian desktop application to show if work has been saved or not to local storage, and if there was any problems doing so?
Thank you for your replies and your suggestions, but it is not quite what I am searching for in this thread.
What I am really looking for (if it is available) is a visual confirmation within Obsidian, that it has successfully saved my work to the vault, for all the files I have worked with.
ctrl + s accordingly to the description Saves current file, but it does not give any feedback if it successfully saved the work, which would be nice to know.
I could as suggested open the note in another program, but that would be quite laborious when writing multiple notes, and force you to keep shift your focus.
Is there an FAQ on how Obsidians save functionaly work, the save frequency etc?
I could not find it, or any reference with-in Obsidian to the save frequency.
Thank you for your reply and the link, it is much appreciated.
The thread you linked describes the problem pretty well along with (examples)
I am not linking the above to open a bug report or anything to that extend, but to enforce my original question if Obsidian has an inn-app indicator for when work has been saved or not. There has not been a direct answer to my question, so I assume at this point that the answer is ‘No, Obsidian does not have an inn-app indicator that shows if all work has been saved’
There can be many reasons as to why a data is not saved to persistent storage, just to name a few
Congestion and Queue (IOPS)
Network loss (NFS, iSCSI, Cloud storage)
Permission changes
System / hardware errors
I don’t know how the Obsidian team sees their own application, but for my own part, my notes are ‘mission critical’ and compared to the rest of Obsidian and the work that has already been done, I would consider a ‘data verification check’ to on the easier end of the scale in regards to implementation, while providing users with the confidence that they need that data has indeed been saved, which users has asked for since 2021?
Question. Are there any specific reason as to why the Obsidian team has not added this feature? The concensus seems to be, ‘because Obsidian saves every ~2 - 3 seconds’ but clearly this is not “bullet-proof” as users has demonstrated.
Question. Is this in the pipeline for implementation?
Obsidian auto-saves changes to the vault, so there’s no built-in “Saved” indicator. If you want to verify, check the note’s modified time in your file manager—no plugin is required.
