Having to tap twice on tab toolbar buttons to activated them on iPad

On iPad with the latest version, when using a custom theme, I have to tap twice on any tab toolbar button to activated them.

In other words, if I use the default obsidian theme, I just have to tap twice to activate any tab toolbar buttons.

And when I say “any buttons”, I mean, both the one that allow to toggle between live preview and read only mode or any buttons added dynamically like the ones with the community pluging Commander.

I tried to turned on the restricted mode but that don’t solved my problem.

Again, just having to use the default theme from Obsidian and my problem is gone.

Even the very popular “Minimal theme” cause this problem.

What I mean by having to tap twice? When I’m edit mode on any note on the iPad, if I click on the button for example to switch to read only but, that looks like to just activate the toolbar but without triggering the click of the button. But if after that action I try to click it again, now the click event is triggered.

Oh, by the way, I have the same problem when trying to click on another tab.

I found this post in 2024 that supposely solved the problem:

Double tap needed to switch tabs on iPad - Bug graveyard - Obsidian Forum

But as you can see, that doesn’t solved mine.

I works fine on my iPhone with the lastest version and also on my Windows desktop version.

You didn’t follow the BR template.

Creat a brand new vault and try there with a theme.

which theme has this problem?

Ok. I’ve created a brand new vault and there was no problem on iPad.

Then, I installed the Minimal theme on that vault… still no problem.

Then, I installed the Minimal theme plugin … still no problem.

So, I tried to compared the .obsidian folders of the new vault vs the existing one with the problem and I found the problem!

When I use any theme other than the default one of Obsidian and I have the option “Show tab title bar” checked from “Interface” in Settings, I have the problem when I have to tap twice like I described.

Since I unchecked “Show tab title bar”, I don’t have the problem anymore.

In you own vault, did you make sure that the plugins and themes are up to date?

Yes. To make sure, I did those steps:

  • Uninstall Minimal theme.
  • Close Obsidian.
  • Delete the folder “Minimal” in .obsidian>Theme (but is was already deleted)
  • Reopen Obsidian.
  • Reinstall the Minimal theme.

And my Obsidian is up to date.

And like I said, I already tried to restart Obsidian in restricted mode just to make sure that is not the community plugins the problem.

Really, the main culprit is the “Settings>Interface>Show tab title bar” that when checked on iPad, cause a weird thing when any theme is used other than the default. In this case, when I tap on the toolbar, Obsidian try to show the title under the tab (which already contain of course the title) and I think this is the cause of this behavior.
