Easier image manipulation (resizing, drag and move next to text)

Use case or problem

I take a lot of notes on Obsidian, especially from scientific papers. I enjoy the note-linking feature compared to Notion or other note-taking apps. However, images take time to reformat once inserted (e.g. editing the code to resize into pixels and having to guess an appropriate size, image cannot be moved next to text). While I am aware it is possible to reformat pictures, this takes time and makes it difficult to take notes smoothly (especially in lectures).

Proposed solution

I am not experienced with coding so I am unsure, but it would be great if there was a way of resizing / dragging around images to place them in certain positions.

Current workaround (optional)

Currently I copy paste an image in and then adjust the pixel size. ![[image.jpg|**400**]]
I have also used the multi-column markdown plugin to move images to be next to text, but this disrupts the flow of note-taking. Although Image Toolkit was also recommended online by other users, I have been unable to save changes made when reformatting images this way and so this plugin does not solve this issue.

I have seen other people post about wanting to find an easier way of manipulating / handling images in Obsidian, and have several friends who have commented that they would switch to using Obsidian for note-taking had it not been for the difficulty in inserting images smoothly.

I too want this feature implemented. Resizing image is so hard in current state.

We receive so much amazing features, yet such a basic thing has been skipped. Lots of features can be done with plugins, but in 2025 it seems like a pretty native feature in all apps.
Plus, native image resizer would not crash with other plugins.

Will be implemented in v1.12.x. ETA unknown.

Dear Obsidian team,

My name is Karim and I am an active user of your application. I would like to thank you for the excellent work you have done with Obsidian. It is an incredibly useful and versatile tool that has improved my productivity and organization.

However, I would like to suggest an improvement that I believe could benefit many users. Currently, resizing images in Obsidian requires the use of HTML code, which can be a bit complicated for some users.

It would be very helpful if we could resize images more intuitively, simply by dragging the edges of the image, as is done in many other note-taking applications. I believe this feature would make Obsidian even more accessible and easy to use, especially for those who are not familiar with HTML code.

I understand that there are technical and design limitations that may make this feature difficult to implement. However, I believe it would be a valuable addition to Obsidian and I hope you will consider it.

Thank you for taking the time to read my suggestion. I am looking forward to seeing how Obsidian continues to evolve and improve.

Best regards,

Karim
