Binary file manager plugin substitute

I’m looking for a possible alternative to the “Binary file manager” plugin, that beside not seeming to be mantainedanymore, is a all-or-nothing. I’m looking for a plugin that could create a compainion .md file for a media (pdf, picture ecc) not necessarly automatically, but with a shortcut.
