What I’m trying to do
Navigate backward within a singlle note. Hotkeys or CTRL+P Navigate Back do not work.
Things I have tried
I was told that the history.json file is required. No such file and it is not created.

Does CTRL
+[
do it for you? Or ALT
+left arrow
? Both of those work for me. I don’t have a history.json.
Deepseek and Gemini insisted on history, json. I have a label ^Lu2016 and the reference [[#^Lu2016]]. I can go from the reference to the label, but mothing works to go back.
Ok. They may have lied to you. There is no such file that I am aware of. Unless it’s from a plugin maybe?
Can you share more information? What Obsidian version? What Obsidian installer version? What OS are you using? What keyboard layout/language do you use?
Or Ctrl-P “Show debug info” and share that info here.
Have you tried in the help Sandbox vault? That vault has fresh settings for testing, so you can figure out if it’s something to do with settings, or a plugin. If it also doesn’t work in Sandbox, then it might be your keyboard or OS configuration.
My mistake saying those shortcuts work within the same note. I mis-saw that they took me to an identically named link in a previous note.
Is this what you want to do: Navigate back (Alt-Left) to previous cursor position on the same page for intra-page links? If so, then looks like it might still be a feature request.
All plugins are turned off. Obsidian version v1.8.9. OS: Windows 11 Pro. Labguage: English. CTL+P, Show debug info:

“Have you tried in the help Sandbox vault?” I do not know about this, but I tried a fresh vault. The result is the same.
Yes, I want this. So it seems that therre is no such feature? This is quite surprising for me.
In this discussion I have found “Navigate Cursor History” plugin, which works. Thank you very much!
Glad you found that! I misunderstood that you wanted to navigate inside one note, pardon.
Maybe this plugin adds a history.json.
Thank you! No history.json did not appear.
