Nice workaround, thank you for posting! This works well for an external link (which is what I was looking for).

A feature like this would also be a fantastic improvement for those using dashboards.

+1 for this feature. Seems obvious that this functionality should exist natively.

Related to this but not exactly what you are looking for (also contains a DEMO Video): GitHub - frederikb96/obsidian-folderlink

For Linux only: I created a solution for linking any kind of folder (inside or outside of vault) in your current note as a Markdown link. When clicking on the link, the folder is opened in the default file explorer. The link is created by drag and drop or selection of a folder in the default system file picker.

This is possible via a very small custom desktop launcher, a helper file I link in the Note, and the fact that Obsidian opens this helper file with the system launcher (which is the custom one I created). This way you can basically achieve anything you want to, not only linking folders, basically linking everything you want and very reliably if you know a bit about Linux and .desktop files. (I made some more for VS Code repositories).

I’ve achieved this feature using the plugin Folder Notes, this way, when you link - it has a actual note to be linked and works as expected.

I really don’t understand, can someone enlighten me? Obsidian already does a great job with linking notes. Is the reason this can’t be implemented for folders due to technical challenges? Why is this issue being ignored by the official team despite significant interest? Couldn’t they at least provide a concrete explanation?

There are thousands of feature requests, and the team is only a handful of people.

Hello,

Thank you for your submission, but I disagree. This topic differs from others in terms of high demand. When you mention developers, I assume you’re referring to two people. Yes, I understand that they are working under a heavy schedule. However, by insisting on keeping Obsidian closed-source, they are making this choice themselves. At the very least, they could provide feedback or clarification to their users. This way, we can ensure that we’re not opening topics unnecessarily.

This is a start, but also, we should be able to create shortcuts of folders and notes elsewhere, see: Shortcut (junctions) of notes and folders

Please implement this. A link to a folder should open the vault tree on that folder.

This would also be great for me
