Use case or problem
Using link to block functionality, I had to face the following limitations:
- I cannot create a single link spanning multiple (non-nested) blocks
- I can’t create a link to only a specific part of a block
- Bullet lists (non-nested) interrupt blocks, and if a block (visually) includes bullet lists, then if you try to link to that block, and all bullet lists (visually) related to it, the link will not include those bullet lists, only the block that comes before them.
- Comments (non-nested) also interrupt blocks
(this is probably not a complete list of the limitations of link to block functionality - I’ve only mentioned what I’ve encountered personally)
Proposed solution
As a solution, I see adding functionality to create links to selected text, similar to the identical feature in PDF Reader.

- Add ability to link to items with block references inside comments – A pre-requirement for using proposed “Link to selection” feature with less limitations?
- Add Deep Linking to Text Selection to More File Types beyond PDF (HMTL) – A request for similar functionality, only the focus is shifted to «external» file formats, particularly HTML, rather than as one of the main features for markdown files
- Block Reference for multiple paragraph – Extending the “Link to block” functionality to “Link to multiple blocks” not a “Link to selection”
