The latest Zotero 7 beta includes the next major version of the built-in PDF reader, which, in fact, is no longer just a PDF reader. The new reader adds support for reading and annotating EPUBs and webpage snapshots in addition to PDFs, and it introduces several new annotation types.
For someone who abhors PDFs, the support as an EPUB reader and annotater is extremely welcome. Thanks for the share.

New Obsidian user here. How do Obsiian and Zotero intersect for you?
I export my annotations from Zotero to Obsidian. I use Zotero to manage my readings and bibliographic information and Obsidian to collect and use my notes.
