Zotero Integration templates not working

I’m not mega experienced with Obsidian or Zotero but have a grasp on the basics; I’m now trying to combine them with the Zotero Integration plugin, and have installed all the necessary prerequisites. Whenever I copy someone else’s template from a forum/GitHub, though, there’s always a line like this:

that renders as this:

When I try to import a paper from my Zotero library, the only thing that gets copied over are the BBT identifier and any notes I add - no metadata, no annotations, nothing. I don’t change the code, I just copy-paste it into the template MD I’ve set as default but every time it doesn’t work. Any suggestions?

UPDATE

I’ve now learnt the add note from annotations feature on Zotero and there’s a little improvement but not much; whichever template file I use (I have 4 available), it does this:

I have a CSS snippet for callouts active but not applying itself to this, the other notes just get plopped at the bottom and the rest of the metadata etc still isn’t getting transferred across.
