Zoom images without holding the click

What I’m trying to do

I want to do a snipet css to zoom the images but without holding the click, with one click I zoom and with another I return to default.

Things I have tried

I found in the forum many ways to do but holding the click.

Also wanted to achieve this with pure CSS! However I think it’s not possible. Two other possibilities:

1. Image toolkit plugin
2. Kepano CSS: If you click + hold + drag somewhere else and don’t move the mouse after dragging, the image stays enlarged even without holding the click. Not perfect, but does the job for me for now if I view images longer than a couple of seconds.
