Windows tablet mode highlight buttons

Steps to reproduce

In Windows with tablet mode active (eg using a Surface Pro with the keyboard disconnected), look at a note with an unlinked mention, for instance one titled “Test” in the sandbox vault. Hover the cursor over the unlinked mention in the Backlinks view.

Additional information

I noticed awhile back that certain highlight elements on (other) buttons don’t get rendered in tablet mode. I didn’t realize that whole buttons disappear!

I am not sure I understand, can you post a screen recording?

Are you using the mouse?

Generally, there is no hover with the touchpad.

Sure, here’s a link: Watch Screen Recording 2025-09-01 150820 | Streamable

I start with the keyboard detached (no “Link” button), attach it, and then detach again. In both cases I am using a trackpad.

You have a tabled and you connected to it both a trackpad and a keyboard?

Or you connect one thing thing that has both both a keyboard and a trackpad?

the detached keyboard and trackpad can be used wirelessly (it’s a surface pro 11)

ok, then this is a windows problem (or chrome/electron problem) on how these devices are interpreted by the OS when they are docked/undocked. It should be the same.

yeah, that’s what i was thinking. but nothing like this happens for other electron apps like vscode, so i’m unsure what’s causing it here. (i didn’t show it in the video, but window elements like the minimize/maximize/close buttons don’t get highlighted on hover when in tablet mode in obsidian, though they do in other apps)

Yes, I believe that is also happening.
