I have read on other fora that snap sometimes has a problem w installing the correct font. I have tried to find out what fonts obsidian is using in order to install them manually. Hopefully it will solve the problem.
The plan is that with the correct fonts installed there will be letters rather than squares when I browse for vaults.

Previously, it used a font called Inter, but in version 0.15.6, it changed to the system default.
Much appreciated, will se if I can work something from there. I managed to get it to work w both AppImage as well as flatpak though, so the problems seems to lie w the obsidian snap. Still worth a shot though, will post if I succeed.
