What is the status of meaning of angle brackets in link targets?

Hi, in links with target within angle brackets, such as this

[link_text](<target>)

Originally admitted spaces and funny characters, then in obsidian 1.6.3 that behaviour was changed to admit only url-encoded destinations, such as http://a.com/hello%20world. I had to adapt my automations. As of today, I tried to use an angle-bracket target without url-encoding, just as is, and it work perfectly! Super! But I am afraid to have to readapt again my automations.

Can I assume, officially, that in the future angle-bracket link targets will work without url-encoding?

The angle brackets on links are part of the CommonMark spec.
