[Web Clipper] for ExRx.net?

Hey everyone!

I just heard about the new Obsidian Web Clipper, and I’m thinking of using it to save fitness exercises from sites like exrx.net to build my own knowledge base.

I want to be clear: I don’t endorse just scraping the entire site at once. Instead, I’d like to add a new exercise to my collection whenever I try something new. This would also double as a checklist to track my progress and explore new exercises over time. The problem is, I have no Experience with Web Clipper and setting it up feels super overwhelming.

Does anyone already have a template for clipping content from exrx.net? Or could someone guide me?

Where I am stuck

I tried using the Web Clipper, but I already got stuck with organizing the content. For example:
Barbell Curl

When I check the available page variables in the Web Clipper, there’s one variable with way too much content:

{{highlights}} =
\[{"text":"","timestamp":"2025-01-02T17:14:31.586Z"},{"text":"# Barbell Curl","timestamp":"2025-01-02T17:14:31.586Z"},{"text":"\[ExRx.net\](http://exrx.net/) > \[Directory\](https://exrx.net/Lists/Directory) > \[Biceps\](https://exrx.net/Lists/ExList/ArmWt#Biceps) > Exercise","timestamp":"2025-01-02T17:14:31.586Z"},{"text":"\\n\\n \\n\\n## Classification\\n\\n| \*\*Utility:\*\* | \[Basic\]
...

It’s overwhelming, and I’m not sure how to handle this so it turns into a clean, organized Obsidian markdown file.

On top of that, I have no idea how to handle sections like the table of Classification or the list of muscle groups. I want everything to look neat and organized in an Obsidian markdown file, but I’m completely stuck.

I spent 15 minutes on this page and realised it is poorly structured. Although it is a fantastic library, it is terrible from the perspective of scrapping.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t use schema.org and lacks classifications, IDs, and other HTML “tags” that you can use for scrapping.

But yes, I’m following this for learning purposes  I hope it’s me who can’t use Web Clipper on this page, and some guru will give some guiding points

Why did I pop my head out? Because (learning purposes) I have done a similar thing from Garmin Connect (still work in process), but their web page is nice (better) structured.

I wish you good luck :crossed_fingers:

Cheers, Marko
