Version 1.9.6 no audio playback

Once you’ve done the above, delete everything above this line.

Steps to reproduce

Trying to play back mp3, m4a or wav files does not work
Selecting the audio file, pressing play and no audio output.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

Yes I tried to do it in a completely fresh vault, in restricted mode (with community plugins disabled).

Expected result

It should play as normal.

Actual result

No audio playback.

Additional information

works for me.

I very much wish I could say the same. It works on my other machine that I did not update to 1.9.6.
Are you using 1.9.6?
Do you have any other suggestions as to what this could be?

A further thing I can add, is that it does work over bluetooth. But when i switch off bluetooth completely, there is no sound at all. But I get sound playback from my browser and vlc, no problem, both over bluetooth, and also both when bluetooth is switched off.
I have tried with all other programs that could also use audio, being closed too.

Try Restarting your computer

That was the first thing I tried.

  • Did you try it in the Sandbox vault, just to double check?
  • You mentioned it working on another non-updated device. On this device specifically, was it working before you updated to 1.9.6?
  • I’m not on Windows 11 to check, but are there any app permissions settings where you might need to allow Obsidian to play audio?
  • As a test to see if it’s attachments specifically, if you embed a Youtube video (or similar), do you hear sound when you play the video? ![](youtubeLinkHere)

(I have no answers, only those questions.)
