Sometimes I just want to quickly read a note from the terminal or make a minor edit. For this purpose I made myself an alias (obs) that starts the fm terminal file manager in my Obsidian vault directory. fm is pretty neat and can even render pretty Markdown. Pressing e on a document will bring up whatever your $EDITOR is set to.

Sure, you miss out on some of the better features (graph view, tags, etc.) but it actually works pretty well and highlights how versatile a knowledge management system based on Markdown can be.
