Use a spellcheck dictionary that isn't missing tons of standard English words

Use case or problem

  • I’ve recently started up a new vault and I’m experiencing constant friction having to add words to the spellcheck dictionary that are standard English words listed in online sources like m-w.com
  • examples: workspaces, unresolvable, unactivated, unarticulated, transformative, subtasks, subfolders, reframing, renunciatory, metacognitive, maladaptive, irreducibility, journaling, knower, hypervigilant, experientially, effortfully, complementarity, affective, affordances, agentic, animalistic, associational, attunement
  • other example words common in PKM contexts even if not standard English: backlink, uplink, callout

Proposed solution

  • give Obsidian a spellcheck dictionary that isn’t missing tons of standard English words

Current workaround (optional)

  • manually adding lots of words, often with a copy-paste into an online dictionary just to confirm I didn’t typo anything, which introduces constant friction into my workflow

The examples you provided work fine for me except “unactivated”, which I don’t think exists.

Yes, the correct word is deactivated. i.e. to make something inactive.

That’s very strange. What could possibly account for the difference? Why would my Obsidian’s spellcheck dictionary be missing many words that yours doesn’t?

Mines is similarly missing words like that. My uneducated guess is that they are word built upon a base word that is in the dictionary, but the dictionary only has a rudimentary selection for some reason. I am using Linux + Flatpak if that is meaningful personally
