Ok, so I’m new to this tool and I understand all this stuff about markdown formatting and such. However, for a person who likes to put a lot of images inside his notes and really finds it useful, I find it extremely cumbersome that OBSIDIAN has to make a copy to the VAULT of the file that is ALREADY ON MY PC in order to add it to my notes.
It would be really necessary and useful to include a function that allows you to copy and paste images with the ease that a word processor has without having to make a copy of the file in the vault and literally “include said note in the original note”. I was diving into OBSIDIAN to make my notes in Medschool, but this specific problem makes me continue with my old and reliable way of storing my data, using google docs.

Ppssible workarounds:
- Did you try to use absolute path when adding an image? i mean copy paste path to the image to markdown link. You can also embed online images that are not local copied this way.
- none markdown solution you could create a link to your image or image folder within you obaidian vault.
- Find an image in your file system that you want to use
- Drag the image to the open Obsidian note you want to embed it in and hover for a moment
- Press the OPTION key and then release the image (OPT on a Mac; presume Windows and Linux are similar)
- It should embed with the original image path saved
If perhaps you simply don’t like how the image files are cluttering up your side bar, you can choose a custom attachments folder to store them in.
Otherwise, storing images “in the note” is simply not how Obsidian operates.
The suggestion to link to a filepath on your computer is not necessarily a good solution. Because if you copy/backup/move your vault, or sync to another computer, those images will not be included.
True, though just a question of file management. I actually store all attachments on iCloud so that they are available to different apps and different devices without ever having to be moved or duplicated. Good to have options.
