Unable to perform 'split right' in a left leaf

Environment

Obsidian v1.6.4 on Windows 11 Pro 23H2 OS build 22631.3737.
Checked for update beforehand.
Reproduced in Obsidian Sandbox vault with default theme and disabled community plugins, no sync for that vault.

Steps to reproduce

Try to split right some tab on the leaf.

Expected result

tabs are split to the right.

Actual result

can’t touch this split right button.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? Yes

Additional information

When right-click on Bookmarks tab on left leaf, when options to split page are available (which is not always the case for some reason btw), option to split right is present but disabled (greyed out), but split down is enabled and working. Also, when Bookmarks or any left leaf tab is in focus, split right cannot be found from Command Panel (Ctrl+P).

Actually, it’s the same for right leaf.

Sure it was possible earlier, but now I’ve closed and reopened some of my tabs in left leaf, and now I am not able to rearrange tabs the way I used to have them.

This?

The “Split right” menu item and command are no longer available if the active tab is in the sidebar.

Yes, seems to be exactly this. Should’ve read changelogs more thoroughly.
But, I wonder why that change was made, and moreover, can I please have it back?
Also, should it be a feature request instead of bugfix?
(personally I would consider this a regression, but there’s no such category)

This is not a regression because that option was intentionally removed because it was a refuse.

The issue is that it should not have been there in the first place. When we did some code refactoring, we reused the code for managing the tabs in the the central area also for the tabs in the sidebar. I understand it kind of worked in some cases, however, we do not officially support having multiple columns of tabs in the sidebar and we recently noticed it that it was possible (because something else was broken) and remove it.

By “officially support it”, I mean that when we design the theme or the user interactions we have to keep in mind that that UI setup is possible, which we never did.

So, I kindly ask you to open a feature request for “Supporting multiple columns of tab groups in the sidebars”

Thanks!
