What I’m trying to do

Transfer Obsidian from Mac OS 10.14.6 to Mac OS 10.15.7

Things I have tried

All I have done is install Obsidian on 10.15.7 to see if it would install. I have a clone of my 10.14.6 machine on an external drive. I am not sure what to do next, and I don’t want to make a mistake. Suggestions please.

Your vault is just a folder with files in it. You move them to a new computer the same way you move any files.

But what about the application itself? Do I download it again? Or transfer it via USB. I am not very tech saavy.

Download it again and when you open it, you’ll have the option to open a vault–tell Obsidian where you put your files. So if you have it in documents - Obsidian_Vault, then you can move Obsidan_Vault anywhere, such as Documents again. It doesn’t matter. Just tell obsidian where you put it when you open it the first time.

Yes, transfer the folder containing the vault.

The installing of Obsidian on the new machine is necessary but the files you use are separate of the app. You point the app at the folder you’ve transferred and done.

It’s not that hard and pretty easy even if you are not tech saavy

In the settings check where you have located your vault in the filetree of your mac
I am unsure what the standard location is on mac, but it should not be that hard to find.
Then when you have found the vault folder, copy the whole thing to a usb and move the whole folder to a desired location on your new mac

Now download obsidian again on the mac. When setting up a new vault, choose the option to open a folder as a vault (in the vault manager section)
From there on you should be able to continue on where you have left of with your note taking
