Scenario: the user wants to learn the hotkey (or add one) for opening the left/right sidebar. Keep in mind the mental model: “open” the sidebars. They may not think in terms of “toggling” the sidebar, and they might think of the sidebar as a “panel”.
Mouse over the left sidebar icon (in its “closed” state)
A more helpful tooltip would reflect the name of the command accessible from the command palette and the hotkeys list, as it does for example for Create new base
@Whitenoise, I’ve been spending my time over the several creating… “posts” that would in my honest opinion improve Obsidian. I may be wrong (by your standards) about the nature of particular improvements, though some have been recognized as bugs. By in all the good faith I’m capable of, I do believe everything I post is an improvement. Apparently you also agreed in this case that more descriptive name for the tooltips would be a feature request.
It would be perceived as far, far kinder of you to recategorize the post as you please, than to shove your moderator fist in my mouth and tell me to “open a PR for it” after I’ve already volunteered my time to report the proposed improvement.
Apologies for the irritated tone. Your attitude does not encourage me at all to continue contributing.
I think this is a debatable improvement. It is debatable that all tooltips should match the commands. Maybe it’s good for some but not all. This specific one that you reported, I am really not sure about.
I don’t think this topic should have been filed as BR in the first place.
Again, this BR should be reframed as general FR asking for tooltips to match commands. If you want to do it, great. If you don’t want to do it, no problem.
I apologize for succinct answer, I go through many thread quickly.
