Simply Colorful :art:

Hi everyone at the Obsidian Discord community! :heart:
My name is Lorenzo, I am a computer science student in Italy and I’ve been using Obsidian for the past 3 years. I’m posting here to advertise my recently released theme Simply Colorful :star: .

Why Simply Colorful

I dunno about you, but I’ve always been the type of guy that uses a lot of colors for everything, and as soon as I started using Obsidian (even though I fell in love straight away with this app), I thought that the power of colors wasn’t used enough in the (beautiful) standard theme. This is why I created a few years ago a CSS snippet (for my personal use only) that made everything a tiny bit more colorful. Recently I have decided to upgrade this snippet, and to transform it in a publicly available theme.

Theme’s objectives

This theme was created for the following reasons:

  1. to make the most prominent parts of the notes more easily identifiable, making skimming faster :eyes: ,
  2. to easily distinguish every portion of the note (different headings, internal links, external links, etc.),
  3. to give the user a visually pleasing note-taking experience by making a strong use of the chosen personalized accent color :crayon: .

Roadmap

In the following months I want to add support for the plugin Style Settings, and for many other popular plugins.

  • Better and more appealing Obsidian tables, with accent on the hovered row :crayon:
  • Added full support for Dataview community plugin :star:
  • Slight tweaks to headings, italic, bold and accents colors in both light and dark themes to make them more preponderant
  • Fixed bug in the background color of a folder while it is being dragged

:art: Simply Colorful 0.4.0

  • full support for Live Preview (as asked by a member of the Obsidian discord) :star:
  • completely new outline section, which now recalls the appearance of the note’s headings (with hover and is-active animations) :bookmark:
    • notice that at the moment it is impossible to know at which type of heading a tree item in the note outline section is referring to, so there is no way to make the tree item the same color as the heading that it pointing. A feature request to make this possibile was made in the official Obsidian forum here
  • better colors for a more distinguishable text (under the WCAG Contrast guideline) :rainbow:
  • changed headings’ size, making them a bit smaller
  • modified font weight of backlinks
  • better transparency for headings’ background
  • better tags’ background

:art: Simply Colorful 0.4.1

Hi everyone, I just wanted to tell y’all a few updates regarding the Simply Colorful theme.

First of all, I’ve released a small patch that solves a few problems regarding font-weight inside search results and backlinks. :star:

Also, I must say that I’m actually liking a lot where Simply Colorful is at the moment. I think that I’ve stayed close to the original idea of keeping everything really simple and lightweight, while adding just enough spiciness to make the project unique, but not too much.

This means that from now on I think that I will spend my free time not on new features, but on making this theme feel as native as possible on mobile. :iphone:

Also, while I’m at it… thanks a lot for almost 2500 downloads in just 3 months! :heart:

Hi everyone, just wanted to say that I’ve fixed a couple of bugs in the Simply Colorful theme:

  • fixed bug regarding spacing between two consecutive headings in Reading View
  • fixed bug regarding spacing between an heading and tags in Source Mode
