Tags property puzzle

What I’m trying to do

First, I want to say that I’m coming back to Obsidian after a two-year hiatus from it. The reason for the hiatus is a massively over-complicated vault (my main one) which I’m eventually going to have to repair. A topic for another day, but relevant to this is : I’m just re-coming up to speed on the ‘new’ Obsidian.

Second, the problem. Because the un-complicated vault that I used for novel-related notes has a tags/properties problem I can’t solve.

There’s a YAML front-matter block with a standard tags property. It won’t accept the tag a-complicated-man — it marks it as bad or malformed. (The stars are hopefully markdown, not part of the tag.)

But within the doc, a tag property accepts #a-complicated-man just fine.

What’s going on and how do I fix it? I want to use the tag in the YAML block.

Update: The ‘tag’ property in the YAML header isn’t accepting anything. Nor can its type be edited to ‘Automatic’.

Things I have tried

I searched “tags” and “tag” and YAML. I even went to the YAML site (yaml.info) for assistance, to no avail. Thanks for the help!

Can you send a minimal note? I just added the Markdown below to the top of a note and it worked fine.

tags: a-complicated-man

Thank you. My suspicion is that the theme is at fault — Pisum, not maintained. The file works in other themes with no error. Too bad about that; I really like the Pisum design.

As a side note, the singular forms of the default properties are no longer supported, so you need to use tags instead of tag. The Format Converter core plugin can convert them. Format converter - Obsidian Help
