Basics
The image above shows how the Zotero tag system functions, for those not familiar. As you can see I can click on a tag in the cloud to the bottom left and it filters my list of papers based on things tagged with that, and it also filters the tag list and only shows tags that exist on documents that are also tagged with the first selected tag. (So they’re not nested under the first tag, they just exist on a document like the first filtering tag.) I can then click on them to further narrow the search to be things tagged with both tags.
I know I can make data queries for tags, or use a search for tags, but I’m hoping for a clickable tag that allows you to narrow searches using multiple tags in a similar way as Zotero.
Additional Features
Simply having the above would be amazing, but here’s some other ideas about things people might want in such a plugin:
- Nested tag implementation; so you can filter by the top-level tag or something within it.
- Tag cloud sortable by alphabet, recent, most used, etc.
- Tags able to be pinned to top of tag cloud, and tags can be colored.
- Tags size in cloud is comensurate with number of files with that tag in the vault, similar to “word cloud” graphics which aggregate words used and those which are used more often are larger and more central in the cloud.
