Table insists on having a blank line above it, but not below

Using version 1.5.0 (installer 1.4.16) on macOS Ventura 13.6, default theme. I would like to be able to create a table like this:

text just before the table
{the table}
text just after the table

However, if I have text just before the table, the table will not render. Instead, I have to do this:

text just before the table
{blank line here}
{the table}
text just after the table

I’d really like to be able to have tables butt up against the line above.

I think you are posting in the wrong category.

This is not a bug (it’s intentional) and it’s not a change that was introduced in 1.5 either. Moved to help.
