Hi all - first post here - I’m moving tentatively from Joplin to Obsidian. I signed up for Obsidian Sync but it was painfully slow so I cancelled my subscription and thought I would try iCloud.
I have successfully linked a vault on my MacBook with the same vault on my iPhone using iCloud (it wasn’t straightforward but I did it in the end!). It’s working fine and updating from one to the other quickly, except that the links to ‘_resources’ on the iPhone are not functioning.
Things I have tried
I have checked and all the resources are there (same number of resources on Mac and iPhone), it’s just the linking that seems to be at fault.
I’ve also tried specifying the full path to ‘_resources’ on the phone but that didn’t work either.
Hi and thanks for the quick response, I’m an artist, so most of my notes have images attached, either of my artwork or of someone else’s. I transferred all my files and folders over from Joplin and it automatically created a top level folder called ‘_resources’ and all of my images are in there. When I open a note (on Mac) the appropriate linked images are there. However when I open the same note on the iPhone they are missing, with only a placeholder to show where they should be. On the Mac settings the ‘Attachment folder path’ is specified as ‘_resources’ and that’s clearly working. The same setting on the iPhone though is not working. I hope that helps.
Well, I can’t explain this, but the images are now showing up on the iPhone! It’s a mystery but I will now mark this one as ‘solved’. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Ah !
Maybe the content of your _resources folder wasn’t downloaded on your iPhone …
Obsidian needs the files to be accessible locally to work properly
I.e.: if your vault is stored and sync across your devices through iCloud, the content of your vault needs to be downloaded from iCloud to your device… The download status of the files within your vault can be checked from the Files app … and if necessary, you can trigger the download from there before launching Obsidian.
If you can (depending on your iOS version), you might want to enable the Keep downloaded iCloud Drive feature on the Obsidian folder (Files app > iCloud Drive > Obsidian) or just the vault within that folder and potentially do the same on your Mac (again, depending on your MacOS version)
