Suspected bug : obsidian not detecting input Cmd+, for settings hotkey

This is similar to a previous (now closed) post posted under “Help”, but I believe this is actually a bug, as the problem is new (was previously working, and is no longer working after both Obsidian + MacOS update), and it is impossible for me to re-map Cmd+, for the “open settings” hotkey.

I am now on MacOS 26.6.2.

Steps to reproduce

Press Cmd (Command button) and , (comma button)

Did you read and follow the Troubleshooting Guide ? [Yes]

Expected result

The settings window opens

Actual result

The settings window does not open

Additional information

  1. This is what I have used for a long time, and has worked until my recent updates

  1. This is the best it can do – it cannot accept or cannot detect “Cmd” and “,” together so it remains stuck at “Press hotkey…” while attempting to listen to more key presses. Somehow it can accept other junk e.g. “Cmd” and “F”

A few things to try:

  • Update your installer (you are using 1.8.4, which should be fine, but it’s a bit older).
  • Do you see the same behavior after turning on Settings > Community Plugins > Restricted Mode? How about in the Sandbox vault?
  • Do you see the same in other apps?
  • In another macOS user account, using the Sandbox or a test vault, how does Cmd , behave?

Also, your language is set to en-GB, but what’s your physical keyboard layout?

I’ve just isolated the problem to some cross-contaminating interactions with BetterTouchTool – so this isn’t an Obsidian problem and I will close the thread. Thank you so much for your help!

To anyone else in the future experiencing this : if you happen to have anything set up as Cmd+, in BetterTouchTool, it seems to be blocking your keyboard shortcuts if the conditions you’ve set are not met
