Monaco Editor is an alternative to CodeMirror which is used as the code viewer for VSCode. It would be great to have Monaco as an alternative, which I found to have better editing experience.

Doubt Obsidian engineers want to implement and maintain two code viewers…

how is Monaco different or better than CodeMirror? Have you noticed anything particularly wrong with CodeMirror?

  • Overall look and feel : editing experience with Monaco is much more polished. You can check out a competitor app, Notable, for the difference.
  • Cursor size (CodeMirror has this huge cursor size for some reason)
  • Line width increases in the editor mode
