Support editor command / keyboard shortcuts in Properties

Use case or problem

I often use Ctrl + R to create a link in my notes or to turn existing words into links, and this is my default link creation method. Also, since I use the breadcrumbs plugin frequently, I use a lot of links in the “up” and “down” sections of the properties of my files. For example, my Antibiotics.md note has [[Medicine]] in the “up” properties. But I can’t use the Ctrl + R shortcut in the file properties panel. I have to manually type the [[ and ]] signs from the keyboard every time I create a link.

Proposed solution

Allow me to use keyboard shortcuts when typing in the file properties panel as if I were typing on a note

Current workaround (optional)

Putting markers manually. Not extremely tedious or something but hotkeys are definitely better.

I would love to see this implemented too!
I don’t see why the create link shortcut shouldn’t work in the property field…
it would make the use of link in properties so much more fluid!

I just created an account to support this idea. Ideally, this would work on mobile as well, so instead of the editor toolbar disappearing when entering properties, it would only show properties-compatible options. For a start, internal and external links should work with desktop shortcuts and mobile toolbar buttons, in my opinion.

Same as @timing , I created my account just to support this idea.

I’m currently trying out Bases, so I will spend a lot of time adding links to frontmatters. I’m on a non-qwerty keyboard and [ is not the easiest key to hit on my keyboard (on Windows it requieres AltGr, on Mac it requires Option + Shift). I use links so often in Obsidian that I keymap Ctrl+J / Command+J to insert link.

My alternative solution is to remap Ctrl+J = [[ using AutoHotKey (Windows) / Karabiner-Elements (MacOS).
